Rendezvous With Rama
RECOMMENDATION INFO
Arthur C Clarke's 1973 novel Rendezvous With Rama is sf in the classic style: nary a trace of characterisation and plenty of exposition from characters standing around explaining things to one another. Clarke was also letting down his (metaphorical) hair with a hint of sexual tension between the male and female characters. But although RWR lacks most of the essential ingredients for "literature", it's also a ripping yarn of old school sf. A vast alien spacecraft code named Rama - a cylinder many kilometers long - enters the Solar System. The crew of an Earth ship assigned to blowing up rogue asteroids is the closest vessel and is sent to investigate. Once inside Rama the crew make some startling discoveries.
