The Culture List
What is this and why is it here?
ARTICLE INFO
The Culture Data Repository is the web presence of the Culture mailing list. The Culture List was originally set up in 1995 as a discussion list to talk about the work of Scottish writer Iain (M.) Banks. We still talk about Banks but new list members shouldn't be surprised if a lot of conversation is off topic. We don't consider this a bad thing as long as what is posted is of interest to large percentage of the List. Discussion about books and films, whether Banks or not, is always welcome. If you do want to talk about Banks then post about him and you are guaranteed to get a lot of replies.
We don't have many rules but there are some points of etiquette we like people to observe. Please reply below the message you're responding to, and indicate the author of the message you're responding to. Try and trim the text you are quoting to a reasonable degree whilst making sure it is still understandable. Provide a URL to a site if you want to link to it but don't post large amounts of text from a site unless you are commenting on it. Emails should be plain text rather than HTML and you should never send attachments to the List. The administrative email address is: mind@culturelist.org To subscribe send a blank message with "subscribe busstop@culturelist.org" in the subject of the email to this address. To unsubscribe send a blank message with "unsubscribe busstop@culturelist.org" in the subject of the email to this address. We also have a backup list at Yahoogroups for the posting of attachments and in case our primary server fails. This can be found here. The Culture Data Repository contains information that we think should be a little less ephemeral than just List email. This includes reviews, recommendations, short stories, articles on pretty much anything you can imagine and, of course, information on Banks. The CDR also contains profiles for individual list members where they might choose to tell you a little bit about themselves. Once you are a registered member of the CDR you can log on to add new entries and comment on existing entries. Click here to register.
