What is the Political Compass average score?
There's a little graph on the bottom left corner of this site. What the hell is it?
The Political Compass test (www.politicalcompass.org) was developed to plot an invididual's political stance more accurately by adding a social axis (from Authoritarian to Libertarian) to the traditional economic one (from Left to Right). The site explains why this is neccessary: "On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook. " Culture list members and CDR users are able to add their Political Compass score to their questionnaire. The site keeps track of the results and works out the average political opinion of the list. Accuracy is calculated as the percentage of active users (ie anyone who has posted an article to the CDR) who have submitted a Political Compass score.
